11/22/2023 0 Comments Abacus bank racismAn internet “near me” search of anywhere in the United States will likely return multiple “First” church results of various denominations with a number of “Second” church results and occasional other ordinals farther down the number line. There may be multiple “First” churches within the same area, especially in a metropolitan area, because there are multiple conventions, synods, or sub-denominations that have planted churches in the same geographical region. The designating of churches in sequential fashion typically has nothing to do with racism, segregation, or ethnic injustice within the history of that particular church. The difference in their membership, however, was not due to intentional segregation but to neighborhood demographics: in fact, the “First” church had provided resources to help start the “Second” church, and the two congregations remained mutually supportive throughout their history. An example was the (now defunct) First Baptist Church of Santa Ana, California, which was historically white, and the Second Baptist Church, which was historically black. There are cases today in which a community’s “First” and “Second” churches have different ethnic or racial backgrounds. In the years leading up to the Civil War, some church denominations split over the issue of slavery, but, in the modern church, divisions over racial tensions are extremely rare. Most of the time, however, the founding of a “Second” church is not rooted in doctrinal issues but is simply a matter of church growth. Some members withdrew from the First Baptist Church and formed the Second Baptist Church over a disagreement on the practicality of religious reform. An easy, practical way to differentiate one church from the other was to refer to the dissenting church that came out of the first as “Second.” An example of this occurred in 1743 in Boston, Massachusetts, during the Great Awakening. When serious divisions or disagreements within a particular denomination or congregation exist, and they cannot be equitably resolved, the result is often the formation of a new church and sometimes a new denomination. Sometimes, it’s the result of a difference in theology or practice. The reasons for a “Second” church forming in a community with a “First” church can vary. The evangelical stalwart James Montgomery Boice was for many years pastor of the Tenth Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. Sometimes the pattern continued with “Third” and “Fourth” churches. The same method of naming churches was followed by other denominations, especially the Methodists and Presbyterians. The First Baptist Church of Natbury Pass is older than the Second Baptist Church of Natbury Pass. When another Baptist church was started in the same community, it would often be called the “Second Baptist Church”-thus, First and Second show the order of founding. The Baptist church that was first started in a particular community was often called the “First Baptist Church of _” (or simply “First Baptist Church”). There were no churches named “Celebration Family Outreach Center,” “Excite! Church,” or “Crossroads Community Church.” Church names were more straightforward and were intended to give more information about the church itself. In the early days of the United States (or the American colonies), church names were not nearly as creative as they are today. Likewise, ordinal designations are also frequently used in bank names (i.e., First National Bank). Other types of churches also use those numerical designations. The designation “First” or “Second” in the name of a Baptist church has nothing to do with status in the community, nor it is unique to Baptist churches.

Costner seems about as pathological as a koala bear, and his gentle charisma reinforces the film’s touchy-feely theme: that the real criminal in American life is the Absent Dad. In fact, he’s too appealing: He’s so much in his straight-arrow, New Age Gary Cooper mode that, despite the fact that Butch is capable of killing without hesitation, A Perfect World loses almost any pretense of being about a pathological crook. Speaking in a honey-smooth drawl, Costner is warm and appealing. As the two head for Alaska, he talks warmly to the boy, takes him trick-or-treating, even reassures him that the size of his penis is A-OK. Overnight, Butch becomes the father Phillip never had. Butch can identify: His own father was a criminal lout. His father abandoned the family, and since Phillip is a Jehovah’s Witness, he has never been allowed to do normal kid stuff like going out for Halloween. Phillip, you see, has grown up emotionally deprived. The core of A Perfect World is the bond that develops between Butch and his young hostage. Now the director’s brooding terrain has been invaded by sweetness and light. Unforgiven didn’t have that much more story line than this movie does, but there Eastwood gave us characters who were knee-deep in moral squalor. It may be the single most bloated movie Eastwood has ever made. The difference is that this one is stately, becalmed-and surprisingly dull. The way A Perfect World sets cop and criminal on parallel tracks would seem to make it the third entry (after The Fugitive and In the Line of Fire) in this year’s sturdiest thriller genre. In essence, though, we’re watching a bunch of detectives while away the hours before confronting their prey. Eastwood and Dern exchange a few testy barbs, just as Eastwood has always done with his female law-enforcer comrades-before learning to respect them, of course. Meanwhile, even less is going on within that silver trailer. Butch never seems to be in any danger, though: Everyone is too scared- or too slow-to report him. Occasionally, he and Phillip stop off at a diner or a small-town store, where every waitress and clerk seems to throw herself at Butch. Butch may be a hardened convict, but he’s a super-nice guy. For virtually its entire 2-hour-and-18-minute running time, A Perfect World cuts back and forth between Butch and Phillip as they make their way past one sunbaked cornfield after another and Red and his team as they drive past the same cornfields. Before long, the two are under pursuit by Red Garnett (Eastwood), a veteran Texas Ranger who, along with his crew of deputies and a feisty federal criminologist (Laura Dern), is traveling in a silver trailer that has been equipped for use as a mobile command center. Lowther), and the case becomes the hottest news in the state. He takes a hostage, 8-year-old Phillip Perry (T.J. The man being chased is Butch Haynes (Kevin Costner), a lifelong criminal who breaks out of Huntsville Prison, where he was serving a 40-year sentence for armed robbery. Like his dark, Oscar-winning Western, this movie is set in a mythic American past-we’re in Texas in November 1963, the moment just before the country’s psyche was blown open by the JFK assassination-and it’s structured as a leisurely, epic manhunt. I’m afraid, though, that lean is not a word likely to occur to many people in connection with A PERFECT WORLD (PG-13), the first film Eastwood has directed since Unforgiven. And it describes the flinty reticence of his moviemaking style-the way all his characters are emotionally stripped down for action. It describes the man himself: the tall, erect physique and the stretched-leather gauntness of his features. When you think of Clint Eastwood, one of the first words that comes to mind is lean. 11/21/2023 0 Comments Bgg tidal bladesThe High Engineers of the Citadel have entrusted you with the Nexus, a device that will let you venture into the Fold, unfreezing time. But you have no time to rest on your laurels as the Fold, the frozen section of space and time that protects Naviri from the sea monsters, is becoming ever more erratic. The Tournament of Heroes has ended and you have been named as one of the Tidal Blades, elite guard and champion of our island realm. It will be available to demo at Gencon, and I am hoping to get a chance to play it.– Check out the game on BGG for more information – Beyond the social deduction aspect, I am also a huge fan of the art style of the game. Players compete to get clues from one another, without giving too much information away to their competitors, after all only one person can have the glory of the discovery. Cryptid is a social deduction game where players are competing as cryptozoologists find the lair of Cryptid. I love the social and player interaction focus that these games present. Generally whenever someone asks me to try one out, I end up falling in love. Cryptid- Social deduction is another mechanic that I really enjoy. Add to the fact that Tidal Blades has beautiful art from what has been released thus far, and it is a worker placement game, it becomes a match made in heaven for me. The quality of components and game play has me looking forward to this title. The Grimm Forest has recently taken the place of one of the most played games on our shelf.
11/21/2023 0 Comments Best guitar tuner app androidThe tuning interface is really well laid out - it’s simple and uncluttered but it lets you tune precisely and accurately. Yes, it’s more expensive but it contains a wealth of knowledge that will help out any budding guitarist.Īimed at beginners and pros alike, Simply Tune is one of the best guitar tuner apps out there at the moment. The tuning section alone is really good, but all the learning tools really do make this one of the best guitar tuner apps available. There’s a massive library of songs with the chords provided too (easy and original versions), and as you play, the app can keep up with you, so you don’t lose whereabouts you are in the song. If you’re after a tuning app that’s going to help you advance as a player too, then this is it. There are chord diagrams, useful chord sequences, all ordered in difficulty and loads more. On the learning side, there’s lots to get stuck into. The guitar headstock is also there letting you know which strings you’ve tuned and which ones you’ve yet to do. As you play the note, the needle in the middle moves and tells you whether you need to tune up or down it makes it clear to see by how much you’re flat or sharp and will likely help with ear training in the long run. The tuner part of the app is slightly different to most others but works really well. This is a really accurate tuner, aimed at guitarists, with loads of helpful features on board to help beginners learn a whole bunch of songs. We’ve got some advice below to help you pick what’s right for you, but here is our list of the best guitar tuner apps. There are various different tuner apps available, some of which are free, and some of which you have to pay for. Of course, if you’re in a noisy environment, then that can interfere with it, but having one of the best guitar tuner apps ready on your phone is always a good idea and will make sure that your rendition of Wonderwall at parties sounds as good as it possibly can (up for debate how good that actually is…). There’s nothing worse than a slightly out of tune guitar, so being to whip out your phone and get yourself back in tune is incredibly useful. These apps utilise the built in microphone in your phone to detect the note you’re playing, and, like either a clip-on or pedal tuner, tell you whether you’re flat, sharp or bang on. Sure, most of us learned the handy 5th fret tuning method, but making sure you’ve got a perfect E to begin with is crucial for that to work properly. 11/21/2023 0 Comments Camtasia studiotrec files to be used in version 2020, so you will either need to edit these in an older version of Camtasia, or produce this as an mp4 from an older version of Camtasia, and import the resulting mp4 into Camtasia 2020 or later. You’ll pay this difference off in monthly instalments. This is the car’s expected value when your contract ends.įor you, this simply means that the money you’re actually borrowing and repaying is the difference between what the car is worth now, and what it will be worth at the end of your contract (the depreciation). What makes PCP different is that your monthly instalments are only paying off the depreciation of the car, rather than the entire value of the car.Īt the start of your PCP contract, a Guaranteed Future Value (GFV) of the car is estimated. Personal Contract Purchase (PCP) is similar to a Hire Purchase agreement as you will usually pay an initial deposit, followed by monthly instalments. You’ll have to take out comprehensive car insurance - it’s not included in your contract. You will need to agree an approximate mileage estimate at the beginning of your contract - there may be a mileage charge if you exceed this. There’s no option to buy the car at the end. It’s flexible - you can change your car easily, and you will have access to new cars that you may not have been able to afford to buy. Your monthly payments on the car will be much lower than if you were buying it. It’s hassle free, as you can drive away a new car without worrying about the warranty running out, or how you’ll re-sell it. When the contract expires, you simply return your car or take out a new contract on a new vehicle. You lease the car for an agreed period of time by making fixed monthly payments. Personal Contract Hire (PCH) is a type of long-term rental that will suit you if you’re not looking to buy the car at the end of your contract. You won’t be able to sell the car without settling the finance. Monthly payments may be higher than other finance options, such as PCP, as you’re paying off the full value of the car. Unlike a PCP or PCH contract, you won’t need to estimate your mileage at the start of your Hire Purchase agreement, so you’ll avoid excess mileage charges.Once you’ve made your final monthly payment, you’ll have full ownership of the car. You’ll be able to drive away a car that you may not have managed to buy outright. When all the payments are made, the Hire Purchase agreement ends and you own the car. If you choose to pay for your car with a Hire Purchase agreement, you will normally pay an initial deposit and will pay off the entire value of the car in monthly instalments.
